at the meeting the other night, the elder who had to read the announcements, which included the $$ info for the new donation arrangement seemed downright disgusted as he read the announcements and asked for the vote.
he said, "well, here is another organizational change" as he read the letter about the discontinuation of the 2nd meeting during co visit.
then after they voted, he said if you have any questions ask this other elder as if he wanted nothing to do with it.
Everything in the universe belongs to Jehovah so his reps have every right to demand it all be turned in. If he leaves you the merciful discretion to keep enough for your living expenses you should be grateful, you murmurers.
If his reps seem more like organized crime lords running a cult full of gullible dummies, you need to pray for a better attitude.

one of my favorite memories growing up was to visit my maternal grandmother in san bernardino california and have sunday fried chicken dinners.
i can still remember the smells of her peppery chicken frying in the kitchen and sitting down on their enclosed patio to a meal of mashed potatoes, peas and that best of all her fried chicken.. my grandmother was a special person, loving and generous, one of the early bible students in california.
before my time her home was known for helping the poor during the great depression.. i don't remember the recipe for her delicious chicken, maybe my mother knew and tried to copy it.
We used to go to Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland fairly often - my cousins lived in Buena Park. Now my aunt lives with my mom in Van Nuys, off Sepulveda. My mom has been there since 1956 in the same house. Several repairs from earthquake damage. She's scared to sleep in the bedroom now. She has made a dorm in the living room by the front door.
The folks directly across the street used to have an awesome apricot tree, they would let us get a lot of fruit at the ripened stage. They also had a barn behind their house and kept a Shetland pony and he pulled a little cart.
It's a Spanish-style house and one time the show Martial Law filmed a scene there and used my mom's front door and front yard - so exciting!
We used to go to Trader Vic's restaurant when i was small - there was a treasure chest all the kids could go up and get a prize - but I don't remember where it was located. Somewhere in the LA area. In Van Nuys we used to go to Coffee Dan's a lot. Also a Penney's, i remember the wood floors. My mom didn't know how to drive and she would walk with my brother and me all over town. There were sidewalks everywhere.

i'm a freelance writer, and am currently writing a story on the jehovah's witnesses church for a melbourne magazine.
i've spoken with an elder/spokesperson of a melbourne jw church, who explained the official positions of the church at length, but i'm really interested in getting more of a sense of the day to day experiences of jws, both current and former.

within the article i found something that suggests more intellectual dishonesty from the wt writers.. that it is in the best interests of both.

Figuring out money and real estate is not easy for me, so i've been reading threads repeatedly that tell about this new money arrangement. I think i've got it now.
A kh built by local brothers with free labor, is sold and the proceeds go to WT.
Now they need a new kh. The WT sends money for materials. Volunteer labor is no-cost to WT. A bigger kh is built, for more than one congregation.
The building is finished, the congregations begin occupancy and begin paying a monthly contribution forever to WT. Whenever WT decides to, they can sell this building and do it all over again and the congregations have to disrupt their lives to undertake another building project.
